Gold Medallion Contest

Contest Rules

All Minnesota high school and junior high student journalists are eligible for the 2019 Gold Medallion Awards. Entries must be completed with all required materials uploaded by June 28, 2019 to be eligible. MHSPA recommends that advises review all entries prior to submission. Winners will be announced at the Minnesota State Journalism Convention this October. Winners will receive award certificates. MHSPA reserves the right to publish winers and submissions on its website and in its publications.

You will have to complete one form per entry. For example, if you wish to enter five different categories, you must complete five individual entry forms.

Who is eligible?

Any student on staff of a MHSPA (or Minnesota NSPA) member publication. If you are not currently a member but would like to become one in order to enter awards, please contact the administrative assistant Ashley Tilley at (612)200-9254 or email

What are the requirements?

  • All entries must have been published or broadcast during the 2018-19 school year.
  • Up to two entries from each school may be entered in each sub-category.
  • Each entry should be uploaded as a complete, full-page tear sheet from a newspaper, or a full page/spread of a yearbook or magazine. Entries that are not the whole spread should outlined in a red box (edited and added before saving and uploading entry) or a description should be given in a text box provided below the uploaded entry to note what the entry is. Entries in yearbook theme/concept package should upload only those relevant pages from the book. Broadcast entries and online entries should submit the correct URL links.
  • Only MHSPA members are eligible to enter.
