Daniel Amborn of Edina HS named Journalism Educator of the Year
Executive director Laura Widmer and associate director Gary Lundgren made a surprise visit to the pubs room at Edina High School to announce that Daniel Amborn is the 2025 Minnesota Journalism Educator of the Year.
“As a veteran student media adviser at Edina High School, Mr. Amborn exemplifies the highest standards of scholastic journalism, mentorship and leadership,” said Rachel Steil from Stillwater Area High School in her nomination letter.
“What stands out most about Mr. Amborn is his humility. He never seeks attention for his accomplishments, but those of us who know him see the passion, hours, and care he pours into the journalism program. He is steady, student-centered, and rooted in journalistic integrity,” Steil said.
Karissa Cheng, Zephyrus news managing editor, says —
“The care and time Mr. Amborn devotes to his students, creates an inclusive environment where every writer, artist, photographer and broadcast journalist feels welcome to try out new skills, pitch ideas and perfect their craft.”
Ally Hahn, Whigrean yearbook co-editor-in-chief, says —
“Because Mr. Amborn displays great empathy and understanding to his students, I have never been afraid to take risks. He encourages his students to make space for fun and fosters improvement through his own dedication to learning about journalism.”
Lynn-Clara Tun, Zephyrus news editor-in-chief, says —
“I look forward to Mr. Amborn’s ethics presentation every year and adore his fangirling over the Washington Post TikToks. He strikes the perfect balance of being tough when needed, while cracking jokes to make us laugh. I’m incredibly grateful to have an adviser as flexible and friendly as Mr. Amborn. I couldn’t imagine the pubs room without him.”
Congratulations, Daniel Amborn, the 2025 Minnesota Journalism Educator of the Year.
