After their powerful report on Lucy Laney School, reporter Lindsey Seavert and photojournalist Ben Garvin are now working on a documentary project for KARE11 called the “Lessons from Lucy Laney.” The team is working to produce a feature length documentary set to air on network TV and in film this fall. The series focuses on people who made a difference in the lives of grade school children. Ninety percent of the students at Lucy Laney School live in poverty, but through the commitment and encouragement of their principal and teachers, students experienced improved test scores, and perhaps the most important thing they have is hope. Seavert and Garvin will discuss how they found the stories in this series, and the impact Lucy Laney had on them and their storytelling. Here’s a YouTube playslist of pieces that have aired throughout the year.
